About Me
Don't sit there with a blank page.
My name is Hannah Winslett, I am a twenty-four-year-old with a BA in Writing and Linguistics and Art minor obtained from Georgia Southern University.
I was born in Austin, Texas, where I lived for nineteen years, walking my dog along the hike and bike trail, spending summers in Barton Springs, and tapping into my creative nature at Mozart's Coffee Roasters. When I was nineteen, I moved to Georgia to pursue my education and I have lived in Savannah, Georgia ever since.
Growing up, I was always fascinated by writing and art. I would write little poems or short stories throughout elementary school and through high school. I even wrote a novel, though looking back as a more mature writer, I realize it was quite poorly written.
I am fond of animals, the outdoors, and athletics. When I graduated high school, I was still unsure of my direction given that I had to consider many profound personal interests upon pursuing a higher education.
When I initially started college, I was headed in a completely different direction. My freshman and sophomore years were spent at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an equestrian studies major. I grew up riding horses, traveling to horse shows, and competing, but soon realized that I didn’t want to spend my time as an undergraduate student learning about something I was already skilled in. While I was able to focus a lot on my artistic skills at SCAD, I felt as though I could not grow in other aspects of my life in turn.
This in turn brought me back to focus on writing.
I transferred to Georgia Southern where I started my major in writing and linguistics, specifically with a creative writing focus in mind. It was during this time that I was able to find myself as an athlete as well, ranking top ten in the nation within the United States Weightlifting Federation.
Over my time in class and outside of class, I have been writing poetry, short stories, and conducting drafts for a novel in the efforts to be published. I am hoping to finish and publish my own book of poetry by the end of 2022.
Looking forward, I seek to challenge myself as a writer and continue to grow. While I feel comfortable in a style I have developed within creative writing, I understand there is always something you can learn, criticism you can gain from, and opportunities to challenge yourself as an author.
